Mozart Quintet in E flat major K.452 for Piano and Winds
and solo works by various composers
Mozart’s Quintet K452 is pure chamber music in that not one of the four wind instruments is unduly prominent nor is any of them subjugated to a subordinate role. Mozart alternates the writing between piano and wind quartet and constantly changes the instrumental combinations in such a way as to create a work of beguiling sonority. The Quintet consists of a somewhat pastoral Allegro (following a slow introduction); a tender Larghetto, remarkable for its sudden and unexpected plunge into the minor mode; and a high-spirited Rondo.
