This concert brings together works that represent key moments of artistic assertion. Fauré’s Piano Quartet No. 2, stands at the threshold of his full maturity, uniting rhythmic drive, thematic complexity, and a deeply inward lyricism. Poulenc’s Sextet for Piano and Wind Quintet, composed between the wars, crackles with wit, acerbic colour, and theatrical flair, balancing irreverence and neoclassical poise. Mendelssohn’s String Quintet No. 2, written during a rare period of retreat and reflection, channels restless energy and dramatic intensity, revealing a composer stretching beyond classical restraint toward a more overtly expressive language.
